Lechlade Gardening Club Event at 07:00pm for a 07:30pm start in the Memorial Hall, Lechlade
We’re excited to welcome Adam Alexander for a special talk: “Adventures of a Seed Detective”
More details below

In this talk Adam takes his audience on a journey around the world on a quest to uncover rare, endangered and above all, delicious vegetables that he can grow in his own garden in South Wales. His discoveries have included broad beans from Syria he found at the start of the civil war and whose provenance goes back to the dawn of agriculture and a beautiful bean that is a fundamental part of two very different cultures, Myanmar and the US. Literally stumbling over a glorious pea from Catalonia was one of many encounters and much detective work he has undertaken over 35 years of collecting, uncovering remarkable stories about this humble vegetable and many others many gardeners love to grow.
Adam has written two books on the subject of his passion for growing, saving seeds and championing home-grown vegetables; The Seed Detective which takes 14 of his favourite crops and tells their story from wild parent to cultivated offspring – history on a plate and The Accidental Seed heroes, published earlier this year. In it he shares his adventures meeting today’s seed heroes; farmers, gardeners as well as professional and amateur plant breeders, maintaining heritage and heirloom crops, breeding new ones that will be part of the solution to how we are able to grow our food in a changing and uncertain climate: He meets growers from India, Ethiopia, Albania and across Europe who are on the front line of ensuring a delicious food future for us all
Adam will bring some seeds from his collection of over 500 varieties to share as well as copies of his books which are available at a 25% discount to the rrp.
