We have arranged a tour around the Royal Mint, which is about 15mins the other side of Cardiff at Pontyclun. The highly recommended tours give access to the Royal Mint where all British and many foreign coins are/ have been produced for currency and collection purposes during its 1100 year history. The tour will take about an hour and afterwards you can take a self-guided tour around the museum and exhibition. We should arrive in time for coffee at the café before the tours start but you may wish to take something to have on the coach in case of heavy traffic.
We are planning to leave at around 1.00-1.15 pm to visit Cardiff. The coach stops are very close to Central Cardiff by the Castle and main shopping area and of course there are loads of cafes and restaurants for lunch.
If you wish to tour the castle – the tour takes 1-2 hours and costs £12.50 (join a guided tour for extra £4.00) and is well worth seeing. Try the National Museum or the Museum of Cardiff (which are both free ) or visit Bute Park (next to coach park) There is a kilometre of different arcades dating back to Victorian and Edwardian times to explore as well of hundreds of other retail outlets. Cardiff Bay, a developed tidal dockland, has historical Norwegian Church, as well as the Millennium Centre and numerous bars and restaurants is approx. 15min walk or bus ride away.
